Limousine Services: Prevost Passenger Coach Bus

Most people have traveled on a coach bus at some point in their lives, whether as part of a school activity, corporate function or public transportation. The thought usually would not cross one's mind that they were using a limousine service, but that is exactly what coach buses are. Coaches offer many advantages in terms of luxuries and amenities, and have the potential to be great money-savers in the long run. A coach bus has been the transportation option of choice for tours, athletic teams and entertainers, as well as any limousine service looking to accommodate large numbers of passengers. For decades, Prevost has been one of the industry leaders in this market, with buses as adaptable for limousine service as they are for public transport.

The infancy of the Prevost bus dates back to 1924, when a cabinet maker named Eugene Prevost decided to build the body for a bus, initially made out of wood. Prevost switched to an all-metal body in the 40s, but it was not until the late 1960s that the business started to take off. The buses have been especially popular for personal motor homes because they can be customized to individual specifications. As opposed to a relatively simple Winnebago, a bus - normally seating around 50 people - offers incomparable space and luxury when retrofitted; a kind of personal limousine service for the open road. Such coaches are not cheap, of course, with particularly high-end models selling for over a million dollars. These exorbitant prices resulted in their nickname, "land yachts."

Yet these coaches have far greater use than simply chasing sunsets across the country. Since many of the buses are equipped for use by handicapped passengers, they can be especially useful for assisted-living homes, public transportation agencies, or anyone anticipating handicapped passengers. In addition, though a coach bus is not exactly fuel-efficient, its ability to accommodate large numbers outweighs such costs. The possible amenities for a coach makes limousine service far more accessible to regular people; the kind who find the traditional long cars a bit excessive, but want a certain measure of comfort on their trip.

The conversion possibilities also make these vehicles ideal for the burgeoning market of "entertainment coaches." This kind of high-end limousine service has become one of the top uses for coaches, with artists and performers taking advantage of the comfort and luxury for long cross-country tours. Buses can provide the most luxurious kind of limousine service, with lounges at the front and the rear in addition to the normal sleeping arrangements. Ample space for luggage and storage makes this kind of limousine service perfect for the long haul of a tour.

Just as entertainers use these high-end vehicles for private use, retrofitted buses have become a staple of any commercial limousine service. Such vehicles are useful for chartering large groups to and from sporting events, allowing them to be used as "party buses." The coaches are also a common limousine service in Las Vegas, taking people from casino to casino in luxury and style. Elite buses are not the most common option for limousine service, but they are available for the right price.

Many options exist for purchasing these buses, both new and used. Since they can be designed or adapted for individual needs, it can be hard to find two that are exactly alike. Even the most inexpensive ones, though, are hardly cheap. Financing tends to be the most important issue, apart from finding one that will suit the needs of the buyer.
